I saw an article the udder day sayin more people smoke weed daily now in Murica than drink alkee-hol. Think that's a first. Probably better in general, imho. Less wife beatin. Increased sales for Taco Bell.
@ibc Yeah man. In addition to the weed thing, alcohol sales are down for a variety of other reasons as well. A lot of big time distilleries and breweries have shuttered up in the past couple of years.
What I will say about the alcohol vs. weed thing in general, is this: One of my best buddies from Maryland growing up, now manages some weed dispensary. Weed is 100% legal in Maryland. Recreational and the whole nine. Which is crazy, because when I was growing up, if you got caught with more than a joint anywhere outside of DC or Baltimore, they would charge you with felonies and throw the book at you. So to me, it's unbelievable that this actually happened there. Blue state I guess.
Anyway, my other friend from growing up lives in North Carolina, where weed is still illegal in all forms, just like here in South Carolina. He owns his own "Delta-9" or whatever dispensary. So, at any rate, my buddy in NC produces like hundreds of thousands of canned THC/Delta beverages that he distributes throughout the US.
Both of these guys SHRED each other on SM. The guy from MD is like, you are making fake shit. Nobody wants that bogus ass fake week. And then the NC guy replies, hey buddy, you are just a worker. Everyone needs workers... And back and forth....
So anyway, the reason I bring this up, is because these Delta/THC drinks are currently legal in all 50 states. SC has been trying to ban them, unsuccesfully. You can buy them at the local restaurants. At the gas stations. There are like 10 "dispensaries" here that sell the Delta shit. They sell "Flowers", which is actual "weed" and what not....
So, the reason I am bringing this up is: The Delta forms of this shit, probably modified with god knows what, have become very potent over the years. To the point where I hear all the time from people that are regular pot smokers that say, "man, I bought some of those legal gummies and I have never been that fucked up before". Like, full on feeling like they are tripping and shit....
Anyway, what I have noticed from a lot of golf outings, beach trips, and some unexpected situations, a LOT of people are drinking these THC beverages, rather than drinking alcohol. I see it on the golf course. I see it on the beach. Like 6 months ago, we were at an oyster roast at a friend from churches house. These are every sunday mass people. Our kids all go to school together. Career guys. Anyway, when offering beer and stuff, they were like "Oh, and there are some THC drinks in the garage if you want any"....
Point is, even though I live in a state that is far behind the curve on the weed thing, I think the entire nation has really adopted the idea that weed is not evil, and as IBC said, is FAR less dangerous in every way than alcohol.....
The gray are is this: You can drink these legal drinks in SC, but if you have to take a drug test for work, or for whatever reason, you are going to test positive for marijuana. So there is a whole legal challenge behind all of this. What is real weed? What is Delta? and so on and so on....
Last year, they raided every warehouse in SC that produces the Delta drinks and confiscated a ton of it, tested it, and charged companies that were producing things that went over the tolerable threshold for what is legal.
So, they are trying to fight it, but losing.
And my point of all of this is: The fact that these short sighted states, such as mine, are dragging their feet on this, is dangerous for everyone. The people producing this fake shit are adding things to it, chemicals and all kinds of shit. making it potent as shit. People take a gummy and hide under their beds like they are on an acid trip.
I just hope the feds can figure this out, before things get too out of control.
The war against weed is over. It's done. Everyone thought the world would end when Colorado made it legal. What happened? Less crime, less violence, less DUIs, less underage drinking, and most importantly, Billions of dollars in tax revenue....
And I have said this before. When I was in CA, it was medically legal, to the point where anyone was encouraged to pay $20 for their "license". Dispensaries everywhere. So, naturally, one would think that you would see people smoking weed all the time. It was the exact opposite. Never saw teenagers smoking weed on the beach. At big parties and concerts, it was VERY rare that someone would take out a joint and light it up... It's the exact opposite of what you would think. It was like because it was so accessible, no one cared. It wasn't "Cool" to smoke weed.... But then you go to a state like South Carolina or Maryland back in the day, and every where you go, people are smoking blunts. Weed everywhere.
Anyway, I think the THC drink thing is a huge market, and it's going to be here to stay.
I have taken extended periods of time away from alcohol over the course of recent years. But, I am a drinker. I enjoy it like most do.... But anything that reduces the amount of alcohol that one intakes is a positive thing. Regardless of why.

So I assumed this one came through. He made some wild Israel posts that got flagged and didn't come through and I left it at that. Not sure if I replied to an unapproved thread, but I asked for Clown to keep it cool this time, so his posts actually come through and google doesn't flag the whole forum. Anyway, we shall see. His first round of posts didn't make it through the gauntlet at all =)
Oh, ok. I reckon you got some kinda automated moderator action. I know someone that live streams with active chat. They'll be like 100 banned keywords, several mods in chat policing, people gettin timeouts, etc. Haha
Yeah, there is some auto moderation for sure. I don't know what the banned words are, but I am sure the key word "Israel" followed by a bunch of wildy negative and extreme words were enough to tip off the bots. The only other stuff I have seen is that if someone makes a thread right after they join as a member, it gets flagged for approval. I always push those through. I check the moderation page every few days. But to this point, the only people that have gotten flagged are fake user bots, guys who start an immediate thread, and then, Clownface. He is the only one that has been flagged for what he actually said.
But like DP was saying, and I understand now, google crawls this site multiple times per day and puts it into the google SEO fields, so we/they don't want to crawl a bunch of potentially disastrous political/war/violence material that will show up in google searches.
We want this site to attract surfers and users that we are missing. We do NOT want some extremists joining the site because they saw a bunch of anti-Israel or pro Iran shit within our content.
Like I said, I don't care what people see, but this day in age, we have to understand that you "shouldn't" just say certain things. We can discuss politics, trannies, religion, war, all of it. But it's the use of vitriol and extremism that it appears the bots are looking for.
Makes sense. My friend will be live streamin and have to mute the sound if she walks up on a song playin too long. Her channel is monetized. The dreaded COPYRIGHT STRIKE. YouTube wil kill your channel.
@ibc Yeah, I have some content on Youtube, and a few years ago, it killed any videos I had with real music in the background. Slightly Stoopid, Black Keyes. So now, any surf edit I put together, I have to put "royalty free" music in the background....

So, I guess the bottom line is we gotta have boundaries. Anybody can show up and get banned. It takes a little skill and effort to get your point across without censorship. 😉
I gave up on having internet squabbles, it doesn't excite me anymore lol. I have been focusing a lot of my self, my family, God, and having peace in my life. I come here to share stoke on surfing and other fun / interesting topics, and I try to keep it positive on the politics. Not perfect, but I like where my head is at right now. I don't look to engage in any unnessary arguments with anybody anymore. I will agree to disagree with those I don't align with on something for the most part. We all know where each other is coming from already, so it's all good among the core group as far as I'm concerned.

The shit people are willing to say in a pubic atmosphere is insanity. Total insanity. And once I heard that every surfing forum on the internet (At least in the US) shut down because the users were so terrible and so filled with hate, that they just couldn't stay in line for two seconds.....
I remember, WAY back in the day, on the surfer mag forums, it was crazy. You would post the most normal, surfing related post and people come out of the wood work "Kook". Idiot. Moron. Fuck you. Go back to the east coast... It has always been wild, but just with regards to surfing.
On SI and even on MS, sometimes things got heated and personal attacks would take place. And it's just never good.

I post on IG using songs they offer. Sometimes it responds back that my song is muted in some locations. I'm like WTFO? Y'all said here's some songs. I pick one and it's blocked sometimes. Probably different countries or some shit. Indonesia might not like my song. I dunno.
Speaking of Youtube. My daughter just turned 15. Back when she was like 7 years old, I made a few little 10 minutes "movies" with her in it. Basically, I used Sony Vegas Pro and some special effects kits. The story was basically that during a storm, my daughter received "Special powers". Glowing fireballs. She was into Harry Potter, so it was that kind of shit... I filmed her walking out in the woods and she would put her hands out, and I would use the special effects to launch a fireball and catch a free on fire or whatever.
Anyway, I made the movies and put them on my Youtube channel. The channel is not private, but it's only really shared with family. I have like 30 followers. It's simply for me to put family content. Me surfing. Whatever. Anyway, YEARS later. This was when she was like 12... She comes home from school and was like "Daddy, you have to erase your youtube channel. My friends found the movies that you made, and now they are calling me Rebecca"... Rebecca was just the character name I chose for her in the short movies. At first, I was like, how the fuck did your friends at school find my Youtube Channel? She was like, I don't know. They were looking for me, but found you. They were watching surf videos of you surfing, then they found the movies... She was freaking the fuck out...
Anyway, by the next day, I had taken down all the content that featured her little films. It was some cool as shit if you were 7 or 8 years old, but she was in middle school at the time, and fucking horrified.
Whenever she gets sassy with me, or is talking shit, I hit her with "Listen here Rebecca".... And she pretty much wants to stab me immediately... Haha... Kids.
There's stuff way more important than politics. My streamer friend couldn't be more opposite of me down there in religion and politics. We have way more in common on higher level, more important things.
When I'm on the beach frothin with someone over the surf, and he goes out to push his gremmie into a few... I'm hootin... Dad's hootin... Both our arms up in the air... Kid stoked AF... weren't nobody askin about the Middle East. Just sayin.

Maybe I didn't splain this right. I can be totally serious and committed to my positions on religion and politics. Nobody's even gonna get close to movin my 68yr old (this month) butt on that. Maybe those are non negotiable, foundation of the house stuff. I don't need to talk about em to everyone. The higher up stuff is things like bein at a Ravens game. Or Mardi Gras. Nobody is really thinkin about Iran.
