@shredmachine What's up bro!? I'm doing good thankfully, sorry about what happened with Mostoke going down without a notice. Zach pretty much summed it up. I had prior knowledge the site would eventually be going offline, but figured I had nearly a year so I waited to say anything, but then it was shut down rather quickly so I bit of a miscommunication but here we are. The owner of the site had to make a business decision unfortunately. The good news is, Zach has done a great job picking up the torch and carrying it forward for our group of friends. Slowly but surely, we're getting back to "normal" it seems.

What's crackin' Shred? Good to hear from you. Yeah, DP is all groovy. I guess MoStoke had been playing on going dark, but it went faster than planned and he wasn't able to reach out to any of us. All data and contacts lost. I gave it like 5 weeks, then I went ahead and fired up the forum on my surfing forecast site and put an SOS out on Swell Info, thinking that logically, any of us OG's would eventually check there to see if anyone had gone back....

After about a week or so, IBC showed up, then Barry. Then the flood gates opened a couple of weeks later once we were able to get word out...

We are still missing some core members, so hopefully they will stumble upon my message. Also, I have been working with my AI bot, and he has google searched about Mostoke telling people that search to come over here....

Best I can do for now.

@zach619 So, once again, nobody is posting or participating??  Am I flying solo, or more appropriate, surfing solo here??  Tomorrow we are supposed to get a nice small swell, and I intend to hit early in the AM.  Not going far, just down there street an into the water.  We have to be vigilante for Great Whites now more than ever - 5 of them were spotted a few miles North of here this week.  A lifeguard even got pulled under as a shark grabbed his line while the guard was out swimming.  Life in the fast line, I suppose.  Step unto the plate boys and let's get this site rolling seeing as we have nowhere else to go, UNLESS, there is something I don't know.   Maybe you guys are avoiding me??  waaah waaah snif snif, my feewngs are so hurt......uh huh...righto!!  Hasta la proxima, morones!!!! 🤪

@barrycuda Zach may know, but I would start with your browser, if using Safari / Apple Mac that may possibly be it, but not sure. If you go to Surf Forum, you should be seeing pages of threads and posts from several people, not a ton but there's been banter.

@barrycuda I am looking into this. Your account is active. There are no flags or moderation notes on your username. Not sure what is going on. But please let me know what it looks like on your end. If you click up at the top where is says

East Coast Surf Forum > Surf Forum - This is the main page, where you should see 30 or so topics. There is not the level of activity from SoStoke or SI in it's hayday, but there are a dozen+ posts etc per day. We are still missing a bunch of people, but it sounds like you aren't seeing anything. Not sure why.

@barrycuda i started just going on recent posts tab to keep current

I think this new format should make it easier.

I probably should have mentioned this before, but the way I had it, if you look over to the right hand side of the "topic" it will show you the user name that made the most recent post. Previously, if you clicked right below that, it would take you to the end of the thread.

Also, I will next look into make a "like" or a "thumbs" up not appear as a new thread. In the old format, if you clicked "Like" or whatever, it would appear on the forum as a new post, when it was not...

Anyway, I will leave it like this for now. Feedback encouraged.

Speaking of Barry's problem here. Let me know your thoughts on this. The default setting on this forum, is that if you REPLY to someone's post, it embeds the response to that particular post, rather than quoting the post, and adding your reply to the end of the thread, showing as the newest post. I find myself missing some posts. Especially say, IBC replies to something I said a few posts above, but then DP just says something in the thread, it naturally takes you to DP's most recent thread, but you have to scroll up to see the replies....

I am not a huge fan of that, but I guess that is how the flow of a lot of things now. Like, my personal email does that, where it clumps replies all into a thread in your inbox. I hate that. I want to see every reply show up as a new email.

Anyway, let me know your thoughts.

@zach619 Yeah, it's kinda tough finding the replies that go mid page instead of bottom of page. So far, I find it easier to click the link to the reply by going to alert bell icon and clicking the link and it usually brings me to the reply or at least close and then I can scroll a little up or down to locate, not my favorite but not a major issue either, just takes a bit of getting use to is all.

@dawnpatrol321 Testing.... This is a new layout. I believe that this will show the replies in the more traditional sense. But unfortunately, it looks like it will take you to page 1 instead of the last page of the thread. Working on that. Apologies if things look weird for a couple of hours.

I haven't really started usin the reply much.  I think I'm still deciding.  I think I like it without copying the original post when I reply.  Those can turn into a whole page for one answer when it just keeps growin bigger.

Just me, but I'd probably be just fine without this subgroup of replies.  Just add to the tread with the main reply.  Never miss anything.

There could be some other better reason to have the branches that I'm totally missin.

Alright Buoys, I think I got it dialed in to where the layout should mirror a little more like MS and SI was. So, this is the "extended" layout. So it will show the threads, and right beneath it, you can click on the most recent post, which will take you to the end of the thread. If you click on the main link, it will take you to page one. That is how MS and SI both worked. Also, in this format, the REPLY feature sends the post to the end of the thread. Which is what I was looking for. But just remember, we have just been clicking "reply" to a post, so there was no need to "quote" the person. The current format will just @theirname and then your content.

So, in this format, if you are replying to someone, most likely, you will want to use the "Quote" option, rather than Reply... Either is fine, but the context might be confusing if the other users don't see what you are replying to.

Anyway, let me know how this feels. I think this is probably the best option. Traditional.

I like the replies / quotes going to the bottom of the page, but the page layout on the forum menu and within the threads took a slight downgrade visually since making that change IMO, but I'm sure some minor adjustments would snap some things back into place.

I kinda liked it before where the last reply for each thread listed on the forum menu included the aviator for the user who posted it, now it's just a link and on the left side instead of right side.

The thumbs up or like icon for each post is now on the left side of the page under the aviator, which is minor, just odd placement. All of it is still functional though, so nothing is a show stopper on my end.

Okay, this is a test of the "quote option"

Yeah, I agree. I am not a fan of the way the listing on the forum looks now. I just can't find a fix for the reply issue in that format. I saw some hacked code I can add to the back-end, so maybe tonight if I have time I will try that. I agree that I liked the old look of the forum main listings etc.

I don't want this to turn into a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th job for ya, Zach.  I was fine the way it was before.  Just don't start branches by replyin to specific posts.  May the Force be with you. 🖖

@ibc All good brother. I just poke around with it in my free time. I just want to get the most out of this thing, and when Barry said he couldn't even see threads, it made me take a step back and think about what I can do to make this easier for all.

More to come. Stay tuned.

Alright Buoys, I will continue to play with this, but I just ran it through about 10 variations of layouts styles and then back to our original "Threaded" layout. Which everyone seems to like....

Problem is, the "Threaded" layout idea is designed specifically for threading the replies etc, and specifically to NOT put them in a new post...

Again, not the end of the world. I like the layout better, and I guess that if this is the default design, then generally speaking, most sites and users like it this way....

So, If this is the one ya'll prefer, I will leave it like this for now....

Only thing, as I mentioned before, is if you don't check on here for a while, someone had replied to something you said before, but there have been new posts, unless you scroll back up and look at it, you would probably never know it was there.

Generally, the way I do the forums us, click on the last page of the topic, and go back to the most recent comment i remember reading, then read from there.

Like, imagine if someone stepped away for a month or longer, then comes back and looked at the old "lighter side" thread that had like 800 pages in it. I would never see if that person had gone back and commented on my posts from months ago...

That said, there are notifications and what not, and other ways to look at the forum I guess. I just keep it simple and just tab through topics usually.

Oh, and like DP said, and I should have mentioned before to Barry and others: On the main page, when navigating the forums:

- The thread topic is on the left (Bold text on the topic if there are posts you haven't read, including likes and replies)

- On the right hand side of the topic, you will see an Avatar of who posted last with a left arrow next to it. Click on the Avatar picture next to the arrow and it will take you right to the most recent post. If you click on let's say "Zach169" which is directly under the Avatar, it will take you to my personal info page.....

I failed to mention that.... Most, if not all of you have figured this out already, but just in case.
