Panthers/Hornets? I am interested to see the what Charlotte looks like without Ball. Ball is a good player, and they had a nice season last year, but I still stand by my opinion that his usage rates were out of control and that fast paced style doesn't translate well into post season play...
The Opening day, thanksgiving and Christmas games all got released. I think they did a "decent" job with those slates, and they put the better matchups on Christmas....
Laker's just got sold yesterday, AGAIN, for 12 billion, but I think they are going to be a play-in kind of team in the west. My Warriors didn't do much in the way of moves, so they will be looking at play-ins as well with no real chance for a deep run.
My OG childhood squad, Washington, has been a joke for 30 years. They at least got the #1 draft pick this year, so we shall see.
Unfortunately for us, and this is all we can go with at this point, because we are months away, but the current pre-season "Power Rankings" in the NBA have Charlotte at #21 and Washington at #22. Warriors limping in at #19.
OKC is currently #1, and with the "super team", Philly is still only clocking in at #5....
I actually loved the NBA season last year, so I am looking forward to another good one. I would like to get up to Charlotte for a game. I have also liked the Magic since they came in the expansion when I was a teenager and they had Penny and Shaq. I think Orlando is a cool town, and I have always wished the Magic could be in contention. They had a good year, much like Charlotte, but they just lacked the firepower and the coaching to keep it together.
I saw that NFL preseason started yesterday? Any coaches get fired yet? Maybe Baker throws 2000yds and 20TDs to our local dude Mike Evans this season. 😏
Yeah, I tried watching some football last night but it just wasn't holding my attention. I hope it's just a preseason thing.
I'm rootin for Heismendoza. Good news. 😎👍
So, I know, I know. It’s the pre-season. And none of the big dogs played etc. But we have a new coaching staff, across the board and we got to see Minter’s first time coaching and helping call the defense. From top to bottom, The Raven’s absolutely manhandled the Eagles. I pulled the stats that matter to me, from an evaluation perspective. See below.
Total Yards
- Ravens: 440
- Eagles: 149
Passing Yards
- Ravens: 298
- Eagles: 83
Rushing Yards
- Ravens: 142
- Eagles: 76
Penalties
- Ravens: 3
- Eagles: 10
Time of Possession
- Ravens: 41:17
- Eagles: 18:43
3rd Down Conversions:
- Ravens: 5-11
- Eagles: 0-9
First Downs:
- Ravens: 31
- Eagles: 6
Ja’Kobi Lane scored his first NFL touchdown. A thing of beauty, splitting a double team from the Eagles secondary. He continues to impress and be the “bell of the ball” in camp and in the pre-season. I expect big things from this monster. 6’4” beast with gigantic hands and a crazy catch radius….
I was bummed to see Tyler Loop miss his first FG attempt from 49 yards. Last we saw him, he shanked the game tying FG that could have propelled us into the post season. So this was not a great look, even though we have a new punter and holder. He bounced back drilling a 42 yarder later and making all of his Extra points. The new punter kicked a piece of shit 20 yard punt to start the night. Also, not great. And while these aren’t too big of a deal, Harbaugh was a special teams guy and the Raven’s have always had the highest caliber kicking and special teams squads in the league….
So, all in all, I think the Ravens handled business. I watched the entire game, and I was stoked. The Eagles finally scored with like 2 minutes left in the game. So to me, it was more of a bloodbath than even the lopsided score indicates….
So far, so good.
Tua and the Falcons looked like straight garbage. More of the same with him. He threw 5 passes, went 0-5, and not a single attempt went for more than 5 yards. His overall passing attempts clocked in at -2 or some shit...
Cam Ward looked terrible for the Titans. They are fucked.
Steeler's new QB2 looked great.
The Bengal's O-line looked as bad as ever. Pressure all over Burrow, including a sack... More of the same there.
Sander's looked like garbage for the Browns. Watson was medicore to decent. So that dumpster fire of a QB room should be interesting.
All in all, pretty fun opening week of pre-season.
And in the first leg of the FedEX cup playoffs, Scottie did what Scottie does, and just annihilated the field. He came in -2 better than the second spot, and I think it was on 5 or something, when he was in the bunker, hit a perfect chip out and it hit a sprinkler head, and bounced into the water. He got up and down for a Bogie, but I was worried there. So unlucky. Perfect shot. crazy result. Then he just hit the gas and ended up winning by 8 strokes. I mean, WTF?
Yes, I did drop some cash on him, so he came through in the clutch... He hadn't won in like 200+ days or something, but ironically, he leads the field in like 6 of the 10 major categories through that stretch, including top 5 finishes and stuff. He IS the best golfer in the world, and if anyone can even come remotely close to Tiger's shadow, it's Scottie. So I am happy to see him back at the top of his game.
Scottie was on fire! Dude was locked in.
And let me remind everyone of the most important STAT from last year's NFL season: The New England Patriots had the easiest schedule ranking in 25 years in the NFL. And the second easiest schedule in that 25 year stretch was also last year, for the Denver Broncos...
So I warn anyone, especially if you are a Pats fan or a gambler. Do NOT go all in on Denver....
And for New England: Here is the break down of how you got to the superbowl:
Wild Card Week: BYE - Due to the easiest schedule in modern NFL history.
Divisional Round: CJ Straud throws like 10 picks and has the worst game of his life, and you advance.
Championship Round: You narrowly beat Denver, while they had to field a backup QB. If Nix starts, the Broncos are in the superbowl. Period.
Superbowl: The Seahawks wipe the fucking floor with you. Winning 29-13. And to put perspective on how badly the Patriot's got their asses kicked? The Patriots were shut out completely with 0 points until putting up 13 in the 4th during garbage time when Mike McDonald and the Seahawks crew already had the champagne on ice.....
The final score was bad enough, but the Patriot's got embarrassed in one of the most boring, lopsided superbowls I can remember.....
So, hopefully, we don't get a dud into the playoffs with another cake walk to the superbowl. I am always an AFC over NFC guy. I think the AFC, on most years, ALWAYS has the better teams.... Every year it's the same shit: "That NFC North is going to be HUGE. They are so stacked. Of, that NFC West".... And yes, the Seahawks did win this past year, so a poor example. But with KC, Buffalo, Baltimore, New England, Chargers.... Then throw in your occasional Cincy.
BUT, that said, I will destroy my own argument here a little bit, because in the past 20 years, the AFC and the NFC have each won an equal 10/10 superbowls.... So, I guess what I am saying is that the AFC is always a tougher gauntlet, where they beat the fuck out of each other all year long, then widdle each other down in the playoffs. And some of those NFC wins "Looking at you NYG" are very fluky.
And a few examples to further explain how some of these NFC teams won:
NYG: 2 of the flukiest, crasiest wins in superbowl history.
NO: Drew Breez at the prime of his career
GB: Rodgers at the prime of his career
LA: Stafford at the prime of his career
Eagles won two: Both well deserved. Can't say much about them
Seattle won three: Which is fucking crazy. But that is because of the legion of boom. Would have been 4 if they handed the ball to Marshawn Lynch.
Anyway, as usual, I think that the AFC has 6-7 teams that are absolute beasts, and I think the NFC has about 3 teams that you should fear on any given week.
But long story short, Tampa Bay is not on that radar, at all. They are hovering around #22 in the current power rankings, which are not the end all be all, but they are considered a bottom third of the league.
Hey, the Panther's kicked the dog shit outta the Jags last week, so there is that... And fantasy football doesn't necessarily translate into real football, but I had Fantasy Football focus on TV last night and they were listing the top 25 QBs in fantasy, and Bryce Young was listed at #25... I was like, damn... That is rough. And while the offense isn't geared towards gaudy numbers by Young, I think coming out of the gates as the one of the bottom 7 QBs in the league is not a good look.
Hoping for the best for him and the panthers, but I think Atlanta and even NO will have something to say this year, not to mention Baker and that drama....
I don't recall everything that needed to happen last year, but I do know that Carolina required a LOT of help in those final two weeks to secure that spot. They needed like Atlanta to lose, Tampa to lose and something else. And all of those things actually happened.
Did you see that performance the Raiders presumed back up Aidan O'Connell had? Dude was throwing darts. People saying Brady is having a strong influence on the QB's and that team general, and the style of play. I think I definintely saw a little bit of that on the amount of film I've watched. I can't sit through a whole game right now but I catch what I can haha. But I was like damn, this is encouraging to see.
So, in the latest "shit show" drama in CFB, we have a player who was playing D1 ball, went to the NFL draft, got drafted by the Browns and made the roster, then backed out and said he wants to return to college to play his 5th year of eligibility. Now, LSU picked him up, and he is back on a college roster.
So, the Big10 and the SEC both made statements yesterday claiming that they will not allow this to happen, HOWEVER; state law or court cases supersedes NCAA and conference rulings. So, all it will take is a Lousiana lawyer to interview and declare that this is okay, and there is nothing the NCAA, the SEC or the BIG10 can do. Much like what happened in Texas when the kid that was gambling on Football got re-instated at Texas Tech. A Texas Judge allowed it and rejected the NCAA injunctions. Ultimately, the kid and the school decided not to proceed due to the media backlash...
But this is fucking crazy: Now, these players get up to 5-6 years of eligibility. They aren't attending classes. Now they are entering the NFL draft, getting drafted, attending mini camp, and only when they realize that they will not be a starter, or will not receive their intended salary, they can just quit the team and return to college.
This is fucking nuts. And the fact that there are judges that are going to push this shit through is a gross misuse of power.
And to note: LSU is basically owned by the governor of Louisiana. He makes all the decisions. They literally had to ask his permission about the Lane Kiffin thing, so LA will FOR SURE have the ability to block this ban and allow this kid to play. LSU specifically is the only power conference school that is state owned/run the way that it is..... So of all schools for this to happen to, LSU is the perfect case study.
Also, just because SEC and BIG10 banned this, doesn't mean that the PAC12 or the BIG12 or anyone else has to follow those rules, so that puts these school at a competitive advantage now.
Apparently, LSU has 4 players on it's roster that fall into this category of players that entered the NFL, made a roster, and now returned to school to get a $2+ million per year pay day....
Crazy shit...
And the shittiest, craziest part of all this is that: Pundits and people are still sticking to the "This is college athletics" story, where they are saying that once you sign with or play on a professional team, you cannot return to college? Oh yeah guys? That is your argument? The Average CFB school now has a $30 million budget for football players. THAT IS JUST THE AVERAGE.... This also means that LSU and OSU and ND and everyone else are paying $150 million per year. So, if paying a QB $6 million per year at a mediocre school is considered "Amateurism", than you need to pick up a dictionary and look the term up. There is nothing amateur about this. These kids don't go to class. They get paid more than NFL kickers and shit.
We need to give up on this lie we keep telling ourselves about "College sports".... It's officially "Pro Sports". In every aspect of the word. So let's stop pretending that these kids need to get "X" score on their SATs, and let's scratch the fact that these guys "need to go to class"... Let's just stop the charade. It's all a lie. We all know it...
Your conference championships are GONE. Your conference structures are gone. Your amateur status is GONE.
The NCAA has zero power anymore. They can't enforce any rules. The conference presidents have ZERO power, because the courts all supersede them. The players have ALL the power now. As well as the boosters.
And I stood FIRMLY against paying players in ANY WAY since the beginning of time. A free education and the ability to compete for a spot in the pro leagues was ALWAYS the payoff. People are fans of the name on the FRONT of college jerseys, not the back. Bama fans are BAMA fans, not QBX fans. This is all a joke. And while most pundits and analysts agree with me, they were all too afraid to speak up over the past 6-8 years because the fear of backlash of being "anti-player" and going along with this bullshit narrative about how players are taken advantage of and not paid the way they should. Nonsense. If EA Sports wants to pay guys money to be in their video games, that is one thing. Or if the schools have to pay players a small percentage of their own jersey sales, so be it. I could have gotten on board with that. But now, there are ZERO rules. ZERO caps. No collective bargaining agreement. No regulation. A school could pay a QB $50 million per year, and nothing is stopping them, except booster budgets. Now that the schools are paying kids directly, everything is fucked. Exactly the way I said it would be. College sports are dying, and dying quickly.... People are still going to watch, and that is the problem. But they don't realize that everything they have loved about this sport, and their school and their region is dying, and almost completely gone.
Kids of Michigan fan parents are not going to grow up hating Ohio State fans. South Carolina fans aren't going to grow up hating Clemson. Kids from Georgia aren't going to heckle some kis wearing an Alabama shirt.... It's all going away. UCLA is never going to be a rivalry school to Maryland. Oregon may be in the BIG10 now, but nobody in the midwest is ever going to get fired up about that "Rivalry game against Oregon"....
The conferences are gone. The conference championships are gone. We already have a 12 team playoff and are looking at upwards of a 24 team layout, where everyone gets in, and there is more money on the table.
So, if you are a college football fan, please enjoy this season, and possibly the next, because in a couple of years, you are going to have "THE NFL" and the "NFL G-LEAGUE" AKA/ College football. That is already what it is now, but people are just holding on to the past for dear life, not realizing that it's already gone....
And for the record, there will never be a collective bargaining agreement between the NCAA and players. The players have a negative incentive, rather than no incentive, to collectively bargain. They have all the power, and can make all the money and basically do what they want with zero oversight, so any kind of agreement would remove leverage and power that the players have, and that won't happen. Any lawyer worth his own weight would eat that shit up and say, how about no. We are not going to collectively bargain with the presidents and the schools. Fuck them. The players take as much money as they want. Play when they want. Play where they want. And if they don't get their way, just find a friendly booster judge and do it that way. The NCAA and college sports opened pandoras box and weren't able to contain it for even 5 minutes. It's gone. Poof.... Bye bye... Fucking retards.
I saw something about that, never seen that before, weird shit. I miss the Bobby Bowden era, life was better and more simple then. 🤣
Yeah, everything in the world is going to shit, as it seems. Especially when money is on the table.
Like I said, the only long term fix for college sports is to treat it for what is: A professional league.
- No more cupcake schedules. The top 40 teams from the previous year all duke it out for 12 weeks. You can mix in a few rivalry games, but 10 of the games need to be against top 40 opponents. Period. No more Talhassee State Technical College of Hair Design on the schedule again Alabama.
- Create a salary cap. Possibly different for power conferences. But we need a cap on player costs.
- I you are outside the top 40 on any given year, you are relegated down to the middle tier and have to compete there. The top two teams from the middle tier get an auto bid into the CFB playoffs in a "Play-in style format" against the bottom 2 teams in the top tier.
- Stop making college players go to class and pretend to be students. They are not students. If any player, on any team, is a full time student, they get a full academic scholarship, regardless of position or status.
- No more conference championships (Already gone as of next year)
- No more "conferences" as they currently stand. You status within a certain conference is of no consequence any more. So treat it as such. You can be a "member of the SEC" but that bears no value on your ranking, status or playoff placement.
If you are ranked #5 overall and you are in a non-power conference, it doesn't matter. You are in the top 40 and are playing nothing but big boy teams, so your status is soley based on overall performance, across the board.
Oh, and while we are at it, make eligibility 6-8 years. It's a professional league. Since it's a paid to play league now, who cares about academic eligibility, and since CFB is truly just the minor-leagues for the NFL, treat it that way. If these guys have already played 6 years, but are still high level players, let them play. Let them play until they have proven that they can't compete any longer. Who cares if it takes a guy 8 years to make the NFL. All CFB is now, is a developmental league for the NFL. So treat it that way. Period. If you are 25 years ago and can't quite cut it on an NFL roster, go back and play for Clemson. Even if you graduated.
These players are not student athletes and have not been for years. So let's just be realistic about it.
The college teams are also doing this: They are poaching basketball players from the Pro-Euro leagues, and paying them NIL money to come to Kentucky and play there. Meanwhile, these guys are 25 years-30 years old, but since they never went to college, they still have 5 years of eligibility. That is more of a basketball thing, but the same idea. Schools and programs circumventing the rules so that they can bring the best talent to their teams. And nowadays, they are poaching grown men, on foreign soil and recruiting them from professional ranking in the name of "Amateur Student Athletes". What a fucking clown show.
I'm gonna hang with college foosball, even though it's tryna get weird. Was nice seein part of the USC game on my antenna TV yesterday. I saw Belichick done went to Ireland with NC and beat TCU. I think TCU beat em by a hundred or somethin on National TV last year. I definitely ain't rootin for Belichick, but it's Carolina news.
I heard my favorite coach, Lane Kiffin done snatched him up some dude that flunked outa the big leagues. I still hope he gets run outa town. Orgeron and the hat dude from Waterboy take over. I'd be so down with that. I Gar-On-TEE! ⚜️😎
This dude.
Go NOLES! YEW! 😎 Way to go, smashing the JUGGERNAUTS of New Mexico State! 🤣
